about

WARNING: DO NOT PLAY WHILE DRIVING OR OPERATING FIREARMS OR HEAVY MACHINERY

“Progressive Lycanthropy” was originally intended for a 2007 “Furious Show” exhibit in Atlanta’s Eyedrum gallery, based loosely around the art of rage. In 2010 the audio was re-tooled for a commercial audio release format and picked up by the short-lived but high-quality Mirror Tapes label (on which it was the 2nd release overall). Here it is again, after long since being sold out.

Many releases in this genre have embraced the over-the-top fanaticism, in both sound and image, that was once a staple of the “black metal” underground, and this is my contribution to that curious micro-genre. However, I hoped to make this more than simply my “metal” album, even if it is in the top 3 of the harshest things I’ve ever recorded.

Much of the audio you hear on hear is underpinned by a “feraliminal lycanthropizer” binaural frequency, a speculative foray into manipulative military sonics that was intended to induce a state of berserker frenzy in a subject. In keeping with the lycanthropic theme, and while liberally sampling from the teeming back catalog of available black metal releases, I deliberately restrained myself to choosing titles named after wolves or performed by a group which was itself named after wolves, or had a prominent member also named after such. Outside of the “Eyedrum” show, portions of this were performed live only a couple of times, to perceptible audience unease.

Since I’m terrible at self promotion, I will direct you to the .pdf “propaganda booklet” accompanying this release for much more significant detail about my opinions on nature (“wolfen” and otherwise) and its relation to human coercion and military operations…and how they all relate to this musical experience. Though the cassette release of this has, again, sold out years ago, the booklets themselves accompanying the physical release were over-printed, and so you have the option to have a physical copy of this, rubber-stamped and autographed by me, should you want it.
