The Fifteen Minutes of Anonymity Correspondence Club is a new audio initiative by me (Thomas Bey William Bailey) and friends. This was born out of the realization that listeners still want some kind of tangible proof of their participation in a culture, but also the frustration with the absurd costs of shipping even a single CD overseas.
One of my solutions to this problem is to experiment with the "unconventional" format of the postcard - an item that I can send anywhere in the world for a negligible cost, and which can be artistically designed to a degree that approaches the sensory / tactile qualities of an "album cover".
As I've noted in other writings, the postcard has also been used by various challenging / avant-garde art movements over the past 125 years or so, from the metal postcards of the Futurists to the burgeoning Mail Art movement of the 1970s-1980s. So the FMOA Correspondence Club aims at a kind of continuity with this spirit of documentation, collaboration and exchange.
For a 50 USD subscription fee, fans will get every new 'audio postcard' that is released over the next year from the time of their signing up (yes, that fee includes shipping of each card anywhere in the world). These are handsome artifacts with silver / gold foil raised elements and sturdy 18pt card stock, with exclusive visual designs. Each postcard is also the vehicle for an exclusive audio piece (ideally around 20 minutes, but often more than this) - and NOT "toss-off" material of the kind that might be reserved for non-canonical albums, but fully realized works that are in keeping with each artist's own standards of quality. My aim is to release new cards bi-weekly, but never less than one monthly.
As a bonus, the subscription fee also entitles you to digital versions of my own works once they're released, and a discount on the future Correspondence Club anthology to be released on a more "conventional" format.
We already have lots of tremendous contributions for this series: Francisco Lopez, Al Margolis / If, Bwana, Barbara Ellison, Das Synthetische Mischgewebe, PBK, Skullcaster, Joseph Nechvatal and a lot more in the works now.
